Switzerland is also well known for its beautiful lakes. And we had been taking advantage of that coupled with the Swiss Pass that allows us free access onto the boats. So we are here now in Zurich and yes, you’ve guessed it, we’re going on a trip around the lake. There are a couple of ways you could do this, either follow in our footsteps and just enjoy a roundtrip on the lake (around an hour or so), or you could drop off at any stops and make your way back via trams or foot.
Be sure to check out the timetables, as they are not available at all hours.
“Let’s queue up and make sure we get the seats at the back.”
“Those are the ones with the good views and you can avoid the water spray, if there’s any.”
Taking a roundtrip on the boat takes up 90 minutes and you get to see a lot of the lakeside houses and activities. The sun was out and everyone was taking advantage of it.
I personally feel that there is a policy of some sort by the local council governing the way houses are built around the lakes. There are no buildings blocking the views, even for those at the back as you can see from the picture itself, they can still enjoy the view of the lake. This is a really important rule that we could practice.
“My initial plan for us was to drop off at the Casino, make our way to the Chinese Garden behind the Casino and then take the tram back to Zurich.”
“We’re tired of walking,” came the replies.
“As expected. So let’s sit back and enjoy the rest of the journey.”
90 minutes later, we were back where we started. It was here where we split up, my parents together with QS and GC wanted to go window shopping, while I prefer to check out the rest of the city.
We made our way to Grossmünster, another church with tower views. These climbs are the highlights of our Swiss trip. We have climbed a lot of these towers so here we found ourselves outside another.
One thing about these tower views is that you get a good look at the city in front of you without anyone blocking. These views are really breathtaking. See so for yourself!
As a conclusion for the day in Zurich, it is not a very touristy city. Unless you’re into shopping. There are only a few churches for you to visit and the tour around the lake. You could skip those and visit the Landesmuseum for a nice stroll down history.
