Perfect Paris

After a whirlwind 3-day trip around Paris, I feel that I am able to share the perfect itinerary for a one-week vacation in Paris without breaking the budget. Feel free to share your ideas and thoughts in the comments below!

Day 1

  • Start off with l’Arc de Triomphe, early in the morning.
  • Shop around Avenue des Champs-Elysées.
  • Visit Le Grand Palais and Musée du Petit Palais. (Both optional)
  • Place de la Concorde.
  • Continue shopping at Place de la Madeleine.
  • Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. (More shopping)
  • Opera Garnier, end the day with a ballet performance.

Day 2 (Wednesday/Friday)

  • Musée Rodin.
  • Hôtel des Invalides, Musée de l’Armée and Napoleon’s tomb.
  • Esplanade des Invalides and Pont Alexandre III.
  • Musée d’Orsay.
  • Musée du Louvre and also the reason why this should be done on a Wednesday/Friday, the museum closes at 10pm!

Day 3 (Saturday/Sunday)

  • Château de Versailles.
  • Versailles Gardens, the fountains only work during the weekends!
  • Domaine de Marie Antoinette.
  • Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon.
  • If you are still up for it, after dinner, visit Esplanade du Trocadéro for a view of the Eiffel Tower when it lights up!

Day 4

  • Cathédrale de Notre Dame and also the crypts!
  • Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie.
  • Visit the Left Bank booksellers including Shakespeare & Co.
  • Visit St. Séverin and the narrowest building at two windows wide!
  • Musée du Moyen Age/Musée Cluny.
  • See the Sorbonne, the first great Parisian university.
  • Panthéon.
  • Rest at Jardin du Luxembourg with the Paris Senate.
  • Église Saint-Sulpice
  • End the day with a night time river cruise on the Seine.

Day 5 (Not on Mondays)

  • Visit the Montmartre region, including Basilique du Sacré Coeur and Moulin Rouge.
  • Start at the Place de la Bastille, then towards Hôtel de Sully.
  • Place des Vosges and Victor Hugo’s house, most museums close on Mondays!
  • Explore the Marais region.
  • Musée Carnavalet and Musée Picasso.
  • Hôtel de Ville.
  • Shoot onwards to Tour Montparnasse, enjoy the view from the 56th floor!

Day 6

  • Wake up early to go to Cimetière de Père Lachaise or Canal St. Martin. (Optional)
  • Head towards the Left Bank by crossing Pont des Arts.
  • People-watching at Le Bar du Marché.
  • Explore the area around Boulevard St-Germain.
  • Eglise Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
  • Parc du Champ de Mars.
  • Tour Eiffel, head for the queue and wait patiently.
  • Sunset at the top of Tour Eiffel and dinner!

Day 7

Choose any option, depending on your likes and dislikes!

  • Day trip to Disneyland Paris.
  • Day trip to Chartres, see the famous Chartres Cathedral.
  • Day trip to Reims.
  • Go visit Château Vaux-le-Vicomte.
  • Or just spend another day exploring Paris, as you wish.
